Earth day religion
Because
of my personality makeup there are times when my adrenal
glands get overworked. If a driver pulls out in front
of me causing me to drive 25 MPH for several miles a
gallon or two of adrenaline gets dumped into my blood
stream pretty quickly. My heart rate goes up, eyes dilate
and I get a firmer grip on the wheel as I begin making
comments about his driving ability and general intellect.
Such drivers do not irritate Valerie, my wife. She nonchalantly
says she simply does not understand why I react in such
a way — just a waste of adrenaline. Usually at
that point another quart or so is added to the mix.
But, even more exacerbating is to see
someone throw trash on the highway. Preoccupation can
cause a driver to make a dumb decision, but littering
is indicative of a something deeper — a way of
living and thinking. That really gives the old glands
a workout! It also makes me think I would not want to
be a guest in their home.
The truth, however, is though it is
very important to maintain a clean environment, ecology
is not the most important concern for the human race.
God expects us to be good stewards of our world, but
this world is not to be worshipped. For some people
ecology goes beyond good stewardship; some actually
believe Mother Earth is the source of all life and is
to be deified. That is just one reason why I would be
very cautious about allowing children to be overly caught-up
in all this Earth Day stuff. A lot of what is being
taught is not only downright silliness, but it is religious
heresy. And, some of this foolishness can actually be
found in some Sunday School material.
A quick internet search will reveal
some disturbing information. One such place is www.sacred-text.com/bos/bos571
where the following is posted:
-
The primal and supreme deity of the ancient world,
the oldest and most universally worshipped, was
the Great Mother, Mother Earth.
-
The search for Her is the search for our deepest
ancestral roots.
-
In all the cultures where She is still worshipped,
there is no confusion over Her identity: She is
Nature, and She is the Earth.
-
Out of me man and woman, and wild-beast and bird
(came)...Before God was I am. (The goddess
Earth speaking of herself — emphasis mine).
-
We must become one with the Earth Mother in order
to feel Her pain/our pain and make it stop before
the cancer we have become reaches the terminal phase.
(Words of an earth worshipper.)
Earth Day was founded in 1970 by John
McConnell and has been celebrated each year since. They
ring the U.N. “peace bell”, trees are planted,
compost piles are started, people walk or take public
transportation to work, etc. There is nothing inherently
wrong with any of these actions, but the eco-reason
behind them is really skewed for a couple reasons.
First, the earth in its present condition
is not our permanent home. Christians will go to heaven
at the rapture, will return with Jesus for His millennial
reign and will live eternally on a refurbished earth
in the final state. A planet that is not divine, is
not the source of life and will one day soon be totally
burned up is not something people ought to worship.
Second, and contrary to the super ecologist’s
religious belief system, a continued world-wide emphasis
on Earth Day will not, in one iota, bring peace to humanity.
That is exactly what the world cannot understand! Peace
has nothing to do with recycling, but has everything
to do with the Prince of Peace. And, since the world
presently does not recognize Him there will be no peace
on this earth until He asserts full control and rules
with a rod of iron. End of debate!
Take a look at part of John McConnell’s
address to the Air Force Academy on June 2, 2004. His
speech was titled, “President Bush and Jesus”.
McConnell said, among other things, Bush and his
war makers have now provided us with Word War III —
the terrorism war. We have responded to terrorists by
becoming more powerful terrorists. The ways to end our
human addiction to war have been ignored. Saints and
sages from Jesus to Ghandi and Martin Luther King, Jr.,
pointed the way. A heartfelt dedication to the kind
of love Jesus taught and demonstrated can make peace
on Earth a reality. This is a plea from the 89 year
old founder of Earth Day. The 1970 Earth Day in San
Francisco proclaimed the way to “peace, justice
and the care of Earth”. Earth Day efforts at the
UN led to the end of the “Cold War” and
aided many peace efforts around the world.
Did you get that? McConnell says this
war with the Muslims is the fault of the victim —
America. He says we are terrorists like them only more
powerful. He said Jesus, Ghandi and King pointed the
way. (He is wrong about Ghandi and King and I will say
more about what Jesus said below). In fact, in reality
the Jesus he referred to is not the Jesus we know from
the Bible. He also said the key to peace is found in
what he said in 1970 on Earth Day, and he believes the
end of the Cold War was brought about by Earth Day efforts
at the UN. Wrong on all counts.
Now, about what Jesus said. The teachings
of Jesus are noble and would indeed bring peace. The
problem, however, is nobody can put them into practice.
As an example, there was nothing inherently wrong with
the Law; the problem was the human race could not keep
it! Not even Christians can bring utopia to this earth
because we are still encapsulated in mortal bodies plagued
by the Adamic nature. Only with our new and sin-free
bodies (to be received at the rapture) will we be able
to live as Jesus said we should. And peace on earth
will come only when He sets up His millennial kingdom
on this earth. Working for clean air and water cannot
do it!
McConnell and the rest of the green
crowd are all wrong. All the ringing of bells, recycling
of milk jugs and chanting of mantras in unison will
do nothing. The real danger of Earth Day is that spiritually
ignorant people are buying into this eco-religion whose
goddess is the earth! It is now an important part of
many public school curricula from kindergarten through
graduate school, it is emphasized in the corporate world
and in the entertainment business (check the speeches
at the Oscars, etc.) and has become the clarion call
for most politicians who learn early to play to the
crowds.
Note in Revelation 13 that the anti-Christ
will arise from the “sea”, which refers
to multitudes of people (17:15), while the false prophet
will arise from the “earth”. Study the context
along with Psalm 10:18 and 1 Samuel 28:13 and see the
association. It seems this Mother Earth religion (closely
connected, by the way, with the religion of the Divine
Feminine) will be among the top contenders for the world’s
number one end time heresy-of-choice. DLM |
